I’ve been so peeved at Firefox of late I thought I’d give another browser a chance to impress me. I lasted about a week using Safari. A lot of my favorite sites just rendered strangely and the memory issues although not a bad as FF still didn’t do it for me. I then gave Opera a try. That lasted about an hour. Finally I realized that I had flock installed but never really gave it a go. So far It’s been a day and all I can say is HUZAH! Great Job flockers!! I’ll check back in a week. Funny I do this on the same day that FF 3 Beta is released. I think I’ll sit this one out.

This Article in Wired made me smile. Interestingly (and not surprisingly) one of the first things I did when both my daughters were born was to register their domain names. Riley who is now 5 got RileyWoods.com and Maya now 2 got MayaWoods.com. These are set to auto renew forever which I think is a pretty cool gift for any kid. Given that I will likely never own JamesWoods.com (hence the Warpjam.com nonsense ;-))

Now I work in the Domain industry and own a few registrars so I’m not your typical registrant. But word is certainly getting out regarding the overall value of domain names and that’s a great thing for the industry and an opportunity for people who are in the name spinning business (You hear that my Italian friends!!)

Two things might eventually happen here. Some company with deep pockets might go name hunting and register all variations of human name possibilities and then park them and eventually sell them for a tidy profit. Or services that cater to spinning names for newly minted parents will start to Pop up. Probably a combination of the two will occur. Right now the domain name industry is more focused on freeform name spinning based on things/objects and places. I see a stronger shift that caters to more personal needs. Time will tell.

Back in early june I attended DemoCampGuelph and was excited to see and get an early preview of the recently launched AideRSS.

You see I have this problem. It’s called “Info Glut”. Every 3 or 4 months I have to delete my RSS reader’s subscriptions and basically use Techmeme to help me build up my Info Girth once again. The problem is that I collect a lot of crappy feeds and I have no way to help me determine the goodness that comes from some of these feeds. Well now I do thanks to AideRSS.

I predict they’ll be purchased within 6 months. Bonus valuation if they’ve built a plugin layer of some sort. Having this type of data presented directly into your feed reader would be fantastic. Imagine seeing low ranks on your feeds blog and having the confidence to “mark all as read”. Readers need to get smarter and learn what I like and don’t like and a service like AideRSS can help them get there. That has to be their exit strategy because after a while using them might just be an extra step that I’m not willing to make as often or at all depending on how hectic my glut gets again.

So far AideRSS is getting good reviews. This is a tool that is not only useful but kinda fun to play with, err I mean fun to analyze with

Using it to analyze my blog I was able to make some interesting observations regarding the quality of posts that I deliver and what makes them worthy of a high PostRank (killer term BTW).

If you’re like me and suffering from “info glut” and want to get some quality back into your feed reader give AideRSS a whirl.

Notice the difference? Amazing the impact that a tiny little piece of gadgetry has on a company’s marketing decisions in a specific region. The new Apple .com website (which is gorgeous) was launched way back in June at WWDC 07. What do we in Canukistan get stuck with? The old site and still no iPhone. Dang!

Now its been widely reported that Apple made AT&T cry a lot when developing and implementing the iPhone on their network. Can you imagine Apple telling AT&T how much they are going to charge for unlimited wireless internet access!! The gaul!

Now fast forward to Canada when we one day finally get the iPhone here. It’s pretty much a given that it can really only be run on the Rogers network here in Canada since its an GSM EDGE phone. My only hope is that Apple makes the often sucky Roger cry and cry ALOT! Given that we Canadians pay more for mobile data than most third world countries we can only hope that the iPhone gives Canadian mobile carriers a rude awakening in consumerism.
