Microsoft’s iPhone - No one would have cared.

June 27th, 2007 · 2 Comments

Apple iPhoneAll the hype surrounding the iPhone is a bit much. As an Apple zealot even I have to admit that. The marketer in me however is fascinated by the means in which Apple has chosen to release details surrounding this so called revolutionary product.

To me the real revolution is the free advertising that Apple is getting and the brilliant marketing plan that’s being executed. Microsoft would have instead announced a $500mm marketing campaign!! (Oh wait…they did that!).

Hence the bolded line below from TUAWs post. I wish we could get someone from Apple to CaseCamp and dissect it for us (the marketing strategy that is ;-)

The Unofficial Apple Weblog TUAW

There is no denying that the hype surrounding the iPhone is… well, a bit much. We here at TUAW are as guilty as anyone for contributing to it, but I would point out that it is our job to obsesses over Apple and we do it so well. All the blame for the hype shouldnt be placed squarely on the tech media though, it is clear Apple is egging us on by slowly releasing information about the iPhone as we get closer and closer to launch in contrast, Microsoft would have had all this information about the iPhone available the first day it was announced… and no one would have cared.

Ah, your a pretty funny guy. But, why not applaud Apple, they have chosen to execute a flawless marketing strategy supported and hyped by the media, and they let the consumer create the buzz, who else lines up outside retailers for days? Maybe for concert tickets, but for a mobile communication device, nay, nay!

Applaud Apple is exactly what I’m doing Brian. I think you may have misread my post. This part is me applauding

I think we Canuks are all a little bitter that we have to wait another 4~6 months before getting our hands on one of these little beauties. Will I stand in line to get one..Yeah I probably will. And anyone who knows me understands what a feat that will be (to get me to stand in line anywhere)
